How the math works

Every Amazon sale is split three ways: Amazon takes its cut, your costs take theirs, and you keep what is left. The calculator walks the same path your money does:

  1. Amazon fees = selling price × referral % + FBA fulfillment fee. On a $29.99 sale at 15% referral with a $4.75 FBA fee, Amazon keeps $9.25.
  2. Landed cost = wholesale unit cost + inbound shipping + prep per unit. This is everything you spent to get one sellable unit into an Amazon warehouse.
  3. Net profit = selling price − landed cost − Amazon fees. This is the number that decides whether you buy.
  4. Margin = profit ÷ selling price. ROI = profit ÷ landed cost. Margin tells you how much of each sale you keep; ROI tells you how hard your cash is working.
  5. Break-even = fixed monthly costs ÷ profit per unit, rounded up. Sell that many units and the month pays for itself.

Why wholesale math differs from private label

Generic FBA calculators are built for private-label sellers, who worry about samples, molds, and ad spend. Wholesale is a different game: your edge is the buy cost, your constraint is the MOQ, and your risk is tying up cash in inventory that might take months to sell. That is why this calculator leads with landed cost, upfront investment, and break-even units — the three numbers a wholesale buyer actually decides on.

Amazon changes its fees from time to time, and the referral rate and FBA fee depend on your category and size tier. Treat the defaults as starting estimates and plug in your real numbers from Seller Central before committing to an order. This is an educational tool, not financial advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good profit margin for Amazon wholesale?

Many wholesale sellers look for at least 25% profit margin (profit divided by selling price) before buying. Below 10% is generally considered too thin, because price drops, returns, and fee changes can wipe it out. This calculator flags your margin automatically.

What fees does Amazon charge FBA sellers?

The two big ones are the referral fee — a percentage of the selling price, 15% in most categories though some differ — and the FBA fulfillment fee, a flat per-unit fee based on product size and weight. Amazon changes fees periodically, so the defaults here are starting estimates. Check your actual category fee and size tier in Seller Central.

What should I include in landed cost?

Everything it costs to get one sellable unit to Amazon: the wholesale unit price, inbound freight to the fulfillment center, prep or labeling per unit, and any import duties. This calculator adds those automatically from your inputs.

How is ROI different from profit margin?

Margin is profit divided by the selling price — it tells you how much of each sale you keep. ROI is profit divided by your invested cost (landed cost) — it tells you how hard your money is working. A $7.94 profit on a $12.80 landed cost is a 26.5% margin but a 62% ROI.

What does break-even mean here?

How many units you must sell to cover your fixed monthly costs (software, storage, and so on) at this profit per unit. If you have no fixed monthly costs and each unit is profitable, break-even is 1 unit.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. All calculations run entirely in your browser — your costs and prices never leave your device, and nothing is stored on any server.
